The Proper Bostonian Quilters Guild is a diverse and vibrant group of women* dedicated to the art and appreciation of all things "quilt". Our twice-monthly meetings (most 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at the Daughters of St. Paul, 50 St. Paul's Ave., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130) are on the informal side and are always filled with food and fun!
The PBQ annual calendar includes a little of everything - monthly raffles, outside speakers and workshops, potluck dinners and even overnight quilt camps in Maine. We try to fit in one bus day trip to acquaint ourselves with every possible quilt shop near and far. An annual "mystery quilt" has been added to our activities and we issue a Summer Challenge to keep us busy during the vacation months. A lending library is also maintained for use by members.
Although
the PBQ guild was founded by a small group of friends and continues to
be on the small side (approximately 75 members), we have big hearts and
a strong community spirit. PBQ'ers traditionally make a large bed quilt
every two years and raffle it to raise money for local food pantries.
An annual donation is also made to the New England Quilt Museum.
Throughout the year members make teddy bears, pillowcases and quilts
that are donated to various local organizations assisting men, women
and children in need. Recent projects have benefited Con-Kerr Cancer,
Horizons for Homeless Children, Casa Nueva Vida, the Walpole Community
Food Pantry, and U.S. military servicemen and women.
September
2010 will mark our 25th anniversary and we will be anticipating and
celebrating throughout the coming year. Our first event will be a 25th
anniversary quilt show, October 2-4 at St. Theresa School in West
Roxbury.
We cordially invite you to come see us shine at the show and/or check
us out at one of our meetings.
New members are always welcome. Check us out at one of our meetings! Or contact us via email at pbquilters@yahoo.com.
* To date we do not have any men in our membership, but we remain ever hopeful!
